Losing a loved one is a very difficult time especially when that loved one was all you had.- it's even more devastating when it's unexpected, and the deceased had no life insurance. Bad enough your life is suddenly changed, and you're forced to settle into a new life that seems only offered you the memories, debt, and a huge responsibility from the house you grew up in-Imagine being left the house you grew up in, and when you get to the home are faced with having to restore it to it's original state. No one expects to inherit their childhood home with debt in tow. How does one move back into the home they grew up in without the financial backings, means, or support of the upkeep, taxes, and mortgage obligations? One local resident of Brevard County-Mims, Fl asked that exact same question.

Travis Dacus (26) of Mims, Florida seemed to be on the ups when suddenly his mother Betty Edwards-Dacus (62) whom suffered from diabetes fell into a diabetic coma, and a few months later succumbed to the disease. Sadly, Travis is no stranger to death, he lost his father at the age 6, sister at the age 20, and on May 12, 2017 his mother. It was just a few years ago that he, and his mother had to endure the pain, and agony of laying his sister to rest- Fast forward, Travis would be visited by death for a fourth time without mercy when his mother passed away. Shortly after laying his mother to rest,Travis received the news that his childhood home was left to him, and after arriving to the home a few days after quickly found that it had been burglarized, vandalized, and in complete disarray. The disappointment of the findings was heartbreaking since the house had been secured when his mother was placed in the hospital. Unable to visit the home as often as he wanted due to his full-time school, and work schedules he'd visit the home when time permitted, but didn't think anything would happen since his mother was an active pillar of her community, and well-known by the local residents.

Betty Davis-Dacus was a known resident of the local Mims community for over 30 years. Her home sat front, and center on one of Mims, Florida's historic streets named after Harry T. Moore, an African American pioneer leader of the civil rights movement, and founder of the first branch of the National Association for the advancement of colored people (NAACP) in Brevard County, Florida. For the home to have been broken into comes at a shock to Travis, and most residents whom also reside on Harry T.Moore street. The fact that the home is almost as historic as the street it's foundation was built upon is why this story is such a tragedy.

Travis has started a GoFundMe account in efforts to restore his childhood home, and keep the promise he made to his mother that he would take care of her house. If you'd like to support Travis's efforts to keep his mom's memories alive, you may make your donations at https://www.gofundme.com/quot-help-me-save-my-mom039s-house-quot
