Tips to a Successful Podcast

How did the top podcasters get so popular? They had awesome content, interesting presenters, branded shows, and a solid plan. Let’s look at some of these top tips to make your podcasts great.

Make a Plan

You already know what you want your podcast to be about, or maybe you don't, and just maybe you don't know what to do, and even worse you might not be entirely sure how to do it. For starters, it's best you sit down with pen and paper, and devise a basic plan. Note general steps on how you want to get started based on what's easy, and simple for you. Figure out which type of equipment you need, and choose the best equipment that fits into your budget. Choose the type of topics your show will reflect, schedule your weekly segments, and who'd be great co-hosts/guests to invite to engage your audience. The idea is to have a road map you can follow so you have something to go off. It's best your road map ia at least filled with a year's worth of strategies, and content.

Reshape, Redevise, and Recreate Content

Use what you’ve got, change it, and recreate it for your shows. For instance, if you’ve written a blog you can use that content as the material for your podcast. Popular content does really well, even if it’s already out there.

Get a Co-Presenter

Look for someone who can bring a little excitement, drama, or insight to your show. After awhile a one man show can lose it's spark. A co-host, or even guest posts can pick up the slack and spice up your show. Find someone you can bounce ideas off of and open up debates to make things more interesting.

Update Regularly

Be consistent. Stay connected with your audience even if the audience isn't tuned in. Make your podcasts habit forming by regularly releasing them on specific days or at certain times so listeners know when to expect your shows.

Invite Guests

There’s nothing wrong with being inward, but it can get stale. Just like getting a co-host, you need fresh content. Invite guests from top of their industry to get some credibility and visibility for your podcasts.

Length

Make sure you have something to say, and make sure it's lots of it! You can make very long shows, but it’s best to break them up. Podcasts should be in bite sized chunks no longer than 30 minutes. Be methodical about your approach, split up each show into 10-15 minute sections. You then have more to show and can spread your content out.
